The right way out: Putting a full-stop to this political crisis!Category: Articles/Opinion Written by: Amend Foster (on July 03, 2008 - 07:15 PM)E-Mail Article to a Friend
You have all been witness to an absolute chaotic situation that our
nation has been grappling with ever since the imposition of emergency
on November the 3rd last year. I am not here to justify the steps taken
by the President, nor do I favor those who exploited the wrong
decision. I speak on neutral grounds, as a patriotic nationalist, a
Pakistani who wants an end to this circus!
I will discuss a few things which have irked every sane and
‘concerned’ individual in Pakistan before I discuss how the situation
should have been and should be dealt with.
1) Dignity and Sovereignty:
When we are attacked. Our government and military should have
responded immediately, with as much force as we were attacked with. The
false notion of ‘friendly-fire’ would have been exposed - as rightly
suggested by many analysts - if the coalition forces struck back.
To those who are at the helm of affairs: you can sell out your
dignity and self-respect, do NOT try to undermine our dignity and
self-respect as a nation, that will not be tolerated.
The people of Pakistan deeply condemn the violation of our borders
and we will NOT let anyone play with our integrity, dignity and
sovereignty!
2) Dragging the judges’ issue:
We are all, ALL sick and tired of this freedom of judiciary
(so-called) uprising. Put an end to it. This is to both - the
government and those who are apparently standing up for it. We have
more issues at hand. We are facing an absolute collapse of a system
here and this just doesn’t stop!
The drama is over, we all know that this movement is now being used
as an eye-wash ONLY! The nation which stood behind these lawyers
initially has withdrawn its support - why? Because they have now gone
insane and are stomping here and there having no clue of what they’re
doing and what results they will achieve.
3) Food crisis:
Done filling your pockets ‘eh? Now would you please turn your
attention to the basics of food and electricity for the common man?
But no, you wouldn’t have seen the long long queues outside utility
stores - where people in thousands gather for some cheap flour! Land
cruisers and your palaces are built far off from such places!
Do something about it. These people who have put you to the throne
can also pull you off - if the norms of democracy are truly respected
in this country over the coming months or years!
4) Lack of direction and leadership:
What do you expect of a nation led by a puppet Prime Minister and a
President who is silently observing chaos unfold. We have no sense of
direction, no leadership, no goals! We need some. NOW!
With all that said, what are we to expect in the coming days?
The right solution, right now is for someone strong
to step in! I would definitely love to see the military step in to
control this aggravating situation. President Musharraf too should take
a stand, for he has now gained popularity again amongst the masses
thanks to the endless political jugglery which we have all been witness
to!
We, as a nation have been betrayed enough! I salute
the President of this country, who despite having made mistakes, gave
this nation the gift of free, fair and transparent elections for the
first time. But it is now clear that the system has serious flaws. Our
election process needs to be reviewed and revived to make sure the best
of the best make it to the hall where decisions of national interest
and importance are made. The seats in the National assembly should be occupied by the learned, the able and by those who LOVE this country!
For now, I would reiterate… SOMEONE HAS TO STEP IN - NOW! ---------------------------------
