Sher Afgan Attacked, Aitzaz Steps down as SCBA President!

Latest reports coming in to the PakMarkaz network say Aitzaz Ahsan has arrived at the place where Dr. Sher Afgan has been surrounded by angry lawyers cum mobsters and he is trying to calm them down.

Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi has been attacked by angry lawyers and the act has been condemned by one and all as a shameful happening for judiciary and democracy.

On the other hand, Aitzaz Ahsan has resigned from his post as President of the Supreme court bar association.

"I am ashamed by the treatment meted out to Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi by Lawyers" Aitzaz Ahsan said as he announced his resignation.

These people, asking for democracy and rule of law, do they really deserve it? Are we as a nation able to handle democracy and elections and the people's will?

This act must be condemned, whether the person being attacked has been right or wrong, but like the attack on Arbab Rahim (Former CM Sindh), this act cannot be justified by any norms of decency or human sanity!

It also raises questions about the readiness of Pakistani civil society to govern itself in a democratic manner. The conspiracy theories and the claims of "invisible hand" will not satisfy those of us looking for the facts. Unless there is full, impartial and apolitical investigation of this incident, this incident will be seen as part of a pattern of violence that has characterized the entire lawyers movement supported by politicians now in charge after the elections.
