Widening Gaps: Amin Fahim & ZardariCategory: Current Affairs Written by: Ammar (on March 14, 2008 - 12:12 AM)E-Mail Article to a Friend
The gaps seem to be widening everyday between the PPP-P President Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Co-Chair Pakistan People's Party, Asif Ali Zardari. Despite having the largest number of seats in the National Assembly, the party has been in a fix over the nomination of a candidate for the top-slot of Prime minister. It has been almost a month since the February 18 elections and we are still waiting for any solid announcement. The most recent meeting between the two people showed different body languages, both from Amin Fahim and Zardari. “I am the president of the (PPP) Parliamentarians and this post is more important for me than that of the country’s president,” Mr Fahim said when a reporter asked him whether he had been offered the post of the country’s president or that of National Assembly speaker in return for his withdrawal from the race for premiership. “I will not become speaker. I am the PPP-Parliamentarians president,” he said, adding that he was still a “very strong candidate” for the office of prime minister. Who is strong and who is weak depends on what their party agrees upon internally. But it has left us in a fix. A month down and we still dont have anyone nominated yet. And to add more, the most corrupt of politicians have been acquitted in most or all cases by now. Is this was National Accountability was about? Let us hope things work out in the best interests of Pakistan and its prosperity. I'm wondering when I'd be becoming a victim of load-shedding again, I hope its after I hit the submit button for this post!
