I was sitting alone in my room. The lights put off and the sound of my breath hitting my ears in a systematic, periodic fashion. One after the other. I attempt to count them and the breathing gets harder. I count to a hundred and my mind can’t take anymore of it. The sound of my own breath becomes unbearable. I quit.
I had realized. I was not sure whether I would take the next breath. I did not know whether I would inhale the air around me another time. The thought of death struck me! It took over me and a thousand questions popped up.
Do you know how long you will live or love? Do you even know whether you’ll blink another time? Yet you plan for the best and you talk of your future plans.
“Every soul shall have taste of death; In the end to us shall ye be brought back.”
(Surah Al-’Ankabut, 29:57)
It is popular knowledge that when a person dies, the process is such that the soul is pulled out of the body through the feet, which is extremely painful for the dying person.
Why am I writing all this here? Perhaps I want every single one of you to realize that we all have to die one day, it just has to happen! Then why the defiance? Why the ignorance? Why do we pretend to turn a blind eye to this factor of death, when we know in our heart that we are slowly approaching our destination as every second ticks by!
I ask thee, O man! What pride do you walk with!? Will you not be a part of the same dust that you stomp under your feet?
Will we not be under the same? Will we not become a part of this dirt and dust? Are we not made of it?
It’s high time we focused our lives and realized that there is NO ESCAPE! Death shall come. To some, it may come sooner than later. Let us give ourselves up to our Lord and focus on His commandments and instructions. Following His path will not only help us get rid of our day-to-day problems, it will also ensure us a better life here-after!
May Allah bless you all!
