Have you ever been a victim of 'helplessness'? The feeling that makes one feel the most disgusted. If you can do something about a problem then at least you have a hope to rely upon but when there is absolutely no way out, then what? Helplessness!

I am an optimistic person myself and believe in the idea of "the glass being half full and not half empty" but there are situations in life when you can’t do anything at all. Years back when I was a school going kid this feeling of helplessness struck me so badly that I can still feel its pain and there is a strange heaviness in my heart. I and some other children who lived in the same neighborhood went for an outing to a nearby zoo. On our way back to home we saw a very tragic accident, the sight of which is still fresh in my mind. A buss had hit a man and a woman who happened to be mother and son (as told by the newspaper next day). The old lady died immediately and we could actually see her brain out. But her son was trembling with pain and it seemed that he is taking his last breaths but no one bothered to check him up! People passed by like it was a routine sight. They could have at least tried to save him but the hearts of all passer-bys were un-touched. We being small children then felt nothing but 'Helplessness'!

Many times in life a person himself is responsible for the current regrets he/she carries. And the very commonly uttered phrase "If only I had done it then...” or "Wish I had realized then...” becomes our defense to the ever complaining conscience.

My grandfather during the last days of his life used to get hospitalized almost once in every two weeks and come back home again after recovery. It had become a routine for us. But the last time when he got hospitalized I had my final exams. And since I didn’t know it then that this would be his last days. I delayed visiting him till my exams got over. But before my exams got over he departed for the next world and all I got in the end was a regret that will remain in my heart forever saying "If only I had met him once during his last days...Helplessness!

Whatever the reason might be, moral of the story is: “One should always try his best to eliminate the causes and factors that might result in ending him into the most annoying of all the feelings”. Try to fulfill all your responsibilities especially those related to people close to you before you add one more to the never-ending list of regrets!
