With Namira Salim becoming the first citizen of Pakistan to travel to North and South pole, Pakistan can now boast of hoisting its flag at both the ends of the earth. Namira hoisted Pakistan's flag at the South Pole on Thursday as a member of an international expedition. She had become the first Pakistani to reach the North Pole in April last year. However her list of achievements doesn't end here, Namira is also training to become the first Pakistani to go into space. She will blast off into space in the world's first commercial space liner this year. Namira said she had gone to the world's southern-most point with a message of peace and goodwill on behalf of Pakistan. "I am very proud to be the first Pakistani to hoist the national flag at the South Pole, and I did so with peace, love and warmth from my country and the culture it is representative of," Namira told state-run APP news agency from Antarctica. The flag that 35-year-old Namira planted at the South Pole had been presented to her last month by caretaker Prime Minister Muhammedmian Soomro. She said her latest expedition was more challenging than her trip to the North Pole. Namira's father hails from Pakistan's Punjab province while her mother was born in Allahabad and brought up in Delhi. A well known artist, her multi-dimensional mixed media art has been exhibited at summits of the UN, UNESCO and SAARC. Share your thoughts by posting a Talk-Back:
