Flock or Flop?Category: Technology Written by: Murtaza Fazal (on January 01, 2008 - 06:02 PM)E-Mail Article to a Friend
A social browser for social people! People who are sick of Microsoft applications and want to switch to some free, open source browsers, is this what you are looking for?
It is very light compared to IE7 and you can feel the difference easily. It makes you feel as your net has improved but it’s just because of FLOCK. It has the capability to check spelling mistakes within the browser and still doesn’t affect the efficient processing speed. It is great for people who use ‘FACEBOOK’, ‘YOUTUBE’ and few other social websites. It gives easy access for ‘FACEBOOK’ users, just a click can end up in your friend’s profile or his/her photograph or you can post on their ‘WALL’ through it. It provides different add-ons such as “Me.dium”. Using Me.dium Add-on you and your friends can see each other moving around the internet. You can surf the web together, for the first time, in real-time.
Now let’s talk about the dark side of Flock. At the moment it supports limited websites with its special features. For an IE 7 user it would be difficult to compromise with certain minor details such as FONTS, As the rich default text used in IE 7 it is comfortable for human eyes and normally it doesn’t requires any changes whereas Flock's default text is not very comfortable for a user to browse on it for longer durations. Comparing the tabbed browsing with IE 7's when you have only single tab opened it doesn’t show graphically how to open the second tab. Either you have to go to “File Menu” or use keyboard shortcuts but as in IE 7 you have the all the three options from the very beginning. When you open the second tab in FLOCK, only then it gives all the three options for tabbed browsing.
Another problem with FLOCK is that when u resize the side bar(on the left), at one point the scroll bar disappears which is a big programming error and you have to resize it again in order to use the scroll bar.
All in all, considering the fact that it is free software, it is worth giving a try! Enjoy your browsing experience! Share your thoughts by posting a Talk-Back:
